'PASAR KARMA' AT UBUD MARKET | BALI
There are two markets in Ubud - one for the locals and one for the tourists. For the authentic Balinese ‘Pasar’ market experience you need to get up early. The first van loads of fresh produce arrive in the early hours of the morning. By 7am, the traditional market sellers are getting ready to “pulang” (go home). By 8am, the fruit, spices and temple offerings vanish giving way to a sea of oleh oleh (tourist souvenirs).
Early risers can can sit down at a food stall, enjoy a Kopi Bali with fresh pisang goreng (fried bananas) and experience what my local guide calls ‘pasar-karma‘ with the locals.
Thanks to local street photographer Mark Chaves for showing us around.
